Weddings

We are pleased to welcome couples who choose a Christian wedding. You may have a Church of England marriage at St Leonard’s if you or your partner lives in the parish, is on the Electoral Roll or has a Qualifying Connection with the parish.

Should you and/or your partner have been married before and have a previous partner still living, a priest will need to discuss your situation with you in order to see whether you may be married in church according to the House of Bishops’ guidelines.

Otherwise, you may come to St Leonard’s church please call in to the Parish Office any Thursday between 8.30am and 4pm.

For proof of identity we need a passport or a certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British Citizen and one of the following:-
  • Bank or building society statement no more than 1 month old
  • A utility bill no more than 3 months old
  • A council Tax bill no more than 12 months old
  • A mortgage statement no more than 12 months old
  • A current tenancy agreement
  • A valid driving licence
If either or both of you do not have a passport then if you were born before 1st January 1983 we need to see your birth certificate (long or short) and then one of the documents listed above.
If either or both were born after 1st January 1983 then it is a FULL birth certificate AND evidence of your parents British Citizenship or settled status at the time of their birth and one of the documents above.

Both of you need to attend for identification and to sign the application.

In 2022, the basic fees for a wedding are £547; you may then choose which additional options you may want. The fees usually increase by approximately 2% per year but we do not receive the fees table until late in the previous year.
You may now make payments towards the cost of your wedding by Debit / Credit card.

At the beginning of the year of your marriage, we shall invite you to a workshop to consider the vows which you will make and to offer you the opportunity of choosing the music for your wedding.
