Persons with disabilities: Policy Statement
St Leonard’s Church recognises, as equals, those with vulnerabilities and disabilities without distinction. We accept that our overarching duty of care to all those who worship, visit or volunteer here must include meeting specific needs as required and in a range of contexts.
Our policy so far as is reasonably practicable addresses specific needs by providing suitable access, hearing and visual aids and insofar as it is known to us, protection of children and adults within the church building. It is accepted that a person with a disability whether hidden or visible does not make that person vulnerable but within a given situation there may be a vulnerability.
We provide a loop system, large print service sheets, and large print hymnbooks. A ramp is available to provide easy access to the sanctuary. We are willing to do what is possible to accommodate all types of disabilities. A toilet which is adapted for persons with disabilities use is in the Narthex of the church building.
Notices are displayed relating to care of children in areas where children’s work is carried out.
In order to ensure that vulnerability matters are kept constantly under review, an item will be on the agenda for all meetings of the PCC.
