Health and Safety: Policy Statement
St Leonard’s Church appreciates that it has a duty to protect the people who worship in and visit its premises. It also has a duty of care to volunteers who work within the Church building.
Our policy, so far as is reasonably practicable, is to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and systems of work for all our employees, casual labour and voluntary helpers, and to provide such information, training and supervision as they need for this purpose.
We will also endeavour to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of all members of the congregation, contractors, visitors and others who may visit the church and churchyard.
We have an extensive risk assessment document which covers all aspects and areas of the church, upper room and churchyard, which is reviewed annually by the churchwardens and reviewed by the PCC and any appropriate changes made. This document is also required to be reviewed and signed by the various groups involved in any church activity e.g flower group, coffee morning volunteers.
In order to ensure that health and safety matters are kept constantly under review, an item on health and safety will be on the agenda for all meetings of the PCC.
