Funerals
After someone dies, it is usual to call your chosen funeral director who will then contact us to make arrangements if you would like a Church of England funeral either in church or at a crematorium.
After the funeral
After the funeral, you may ask the Minister to refer you to our bereavement team so that someone phones you (normally four to six weeks later) to enquire how you are getting on. We shall also remember your loved one by name in our prayers following their death until two weeks following the funeral; you will be very welcome to attend.
If your loved one lived in the parish at the time of their death, died in the parish or was on the church Electoral Roll, their ashes may be interred in St Leonard’s churchyard or, if you have a family grave, at Constable Lane Cemetery. Or, if you have the ashes interred in another cemetery, a Minister is able to conduct a short service; please speak to the funeral director or to us. You may also wish to have an entry made in the church Memorial Book; again, please contact the us. Contact
Annual Memorial Service
During the October following the funeral, you will receive an invitation to our Annual Memorial Service on the Sunday nearest to 2 November (All Souls’ Day). Many people appreciate this as a calm and reflective occasion without the pressures of the day of the funeral and we shall be pleased to meet you again.
